By Zelma Hurley

You want to be part of a sports team. You know that this would be a good way for you to not only hone your physical fitness. There is a good chance that you might actually end up getting scholarship if you will make the cut. Since volleyball has always been something that you have been passionate about, you decided to take a chance this time and try out to see if you can make it.

You have it remember that there are things you must do that would help increase your chances at getting accepted to the program. Remember, the people running the Etobicoke Volleyball team will have specific things that they are looking for when choosing a potential player, it is up to you to convince them that you would be a worthy choice.

Of the many things that coaches tend to notice, height is one of them. The height of a prospective player tends to mean a lot especially if it is going to be coupled with the necessary skills. Taller people do have an easier time blocking and hitting the ball. So, it is expected that those with take physiques are likely to be given more chances to prove what it is that they can do

How you perceive the sports is another factor to consider too. You need to exude this vibe that you do respect and love the game. Coaches know that those players who are really into the game would do what they can to improve and to better their performances. Those who really are passionate with the sports can always get better reference than players who just play the game because they like it.

A coach is there for a reason. His job is to coach you. His job is to bring your A-game every time. He knows how important it is that he find a player that is going to be easy to coach. He would expect you to have the flexibility to take his advice and his coaching suggestions into the way you carry out your game. Only when you display this attitude can he consider you for the team.

Of course, your skills are going to count. A lot too. No, the coach is not going to expect you to be the best there is, but he would expect you to have the necessary skills that would allow you to become one of the assets in the team. He knows that he is going to develop you to become a better player. But unless the basic skills are there, he will not be able to see the potential in you.

Your playing experience counts too. It is always evident who the players are that have the most experience in the sports. The way they play, their playing IQ and the way they move on the court just screams experience if they have them. Coaches would prefer the more experienced players especially since this would allow them better knowledge on how to conduct themselves when playing.

Your athleticism is going to count as well. Make sure that you will show to the coaches that you are the kind of player that is ideal for the athletic demands of the sports. Athleticism and energy are often going to be very important things that the coaches are going to look for when choosing prospective players.
