Purchasing Or Assembling A 3 Day Survival Kit

By Stacey Burt

No one knows what the future may bring and it is always best to be well-prepared. That is why assembling or purchasing a 3 day survival kit is so important. In an emergency, it is the first three twenty-four hour periods that are the most critical so it is best to be ready for whatever life aims your way.

An emergency can take the shape of many forms. It can be a hurricane, tornado, tsunami, or even a nuclear or bomb attack. Not matter what the case, the supplies you have on hand and the equipment you have ready can be the tools that save your family from this life-threatening catastrophe.

This supply must include several critical items to get you through this first time period. It sometimes takes days for emergency resources to converge and get critical supplies to the areas affected. By having your own store of items, you will be well-prepared to take on much more than others. The basic items one needs include food, water, first-aid supplies, communication devices, shelter, warmth and food prep equipment.

Foods can be those prepared by reputable companies who may specific bundles of essentials for these types of events. For this short time period, regular canned and dry goods will also suffice. Items such as canned and dried meats, energy and power bars, powdered drinks and milk, and canned and dried fruits and vegetables can be included as part of your store. Prep your water supplies by keeping filled plastic containers in your freezer or a storage area at all times. Prepper companies will have plastic bags filled with this life-saving liquid that are easy to access and consume when needed.

A quality first-aid kit is essential. It should include band aids, aspirin and other pain relievers, antacids, antibiotics, scissors, tape, gauze, a thermometer and a cold pack. A good first aid guide and any medications taken by your family members should also be included. Communication devices are also necessary. Consider a two-way radio, a regular battery or solar radio, and cell phones with battery chargers. Extra batteries will also be needed.

There are many other essentials that will be required and some will depend on your family makeup. Infants will need formula and diapers. Pets will require their own special meals. Important documents should also be ready to pick up and take along. These would include birth certificates and social security cards. A stash of cash should also be ready to go.

Shelter will depend on the type of emergency. If you are able to stay in your own home, this may not be a priority but if your home is destroyed, it will be much more of an issue. You may need to have a tent on hand that will house your entire family. If this is not feasible, stock up on several large tarps, stakes and rope. Sleeping bags are the best choice but a variety of large, warm blankets will also do. Prepper companies also offer blankets made of Mylar which will assist in keeping the heat in.

Being ready and prepared for any emergency will help safeguard you and your loved ones. Begin all of your preparations immediately and your chances of surviving will increase greatly. There is no such thing as being too ready for a catastrophe.
