How To Solve Common Breastfeeding Problems

There are instances when it comes to mothers who have their first child, that they only realize the advices from doctors in breastfeeding when they actually start doing it. This is still regarded as the best means in nurturing the baby. This is also the joy for mothers and their moment to bond with their babies.

Although there are some challenges that mothers would undergo. There are many common breastfeeding problems that occur that would make the feeding time a bit uncomfortable. But of course, the doctor is there to help you with it, but the mother should be able to identify it when it arises so it can be solved as fast as possible.

There are latching pains that may happen for the mother. This is either caused by incorrect positioning of the mouth or by some other underlying causes. First, you need to remove the latch by sliding one finger and letting the baby release the latch. You can either wait for them to yawn or tickle their chins so you can reposition and have them latch again.

Cracked nipples could mean that there are latching problems, dry skin, thrush, or incorrect pumping of the breast. This could be an symptoms to other worse cases, but before that you need to do some initial adjustments by doing the same repositioning. You can also let the cracks heal through either water or with the milk. Do not even try to use other moisturizers.

Clogging of the ducts could be an infection, but this can only be determined when there is accompanying feverish tendencies and then aches on the breast. You can initially massage it gently to generate better milk flow. Also, apply warm compress over it. If the pain persists, you can contact your doctor.

Sometimes the lactating can come in large amounts which makes it difficult for the baby to feed or properly latch. Try hand expressing first which controls the flow and softens the breast. The more you nurse, it is less likely for your breast to get engorged.

Mastitis is an infection caused by bacteria. It is accompanied with fever and breast pains. This might be caused by engorgement, plugged ducts, and cracked skin. The only way to solve this is through antibiotics, hot compression, and frequently expressing the milk.

Another type of infection is thrush with is caused by fungi or yeast. This can be initially found around the mouth of the baby which will be passed on to the breast of the mother. These are rashes and itchiness and you need to consult your doctor for recommended anti fungal creams you can use. Apply this to both on the baby and on the breast for them to heal at same times.

The needle poking sensation on the breasts is normal on a certain level. But if this goes beyond than just a few minutes and becomes more painful, this could be an infection. Determine the kind of infection you have by visiting your doctor and also to get prescription medicines from them.
