Must Haves For Traveling Other Than A Portable Oxygen Tank

By Estelle Larsen

Some people are not blessed enough to be able to breathe normally than others. People who have lung conditions and those who have trouble breathing normally will need the constant aid of an oxygen tank for them to continue to breathe. Before, being connected to a tank would mean that it would be hard for someone to move around and do things that normal people should do.

But now, through some major innovations moving around is now possible. By using a portable oxygen tank, those who are dependent to the tank can go to other places. This can be a hassle at first, especially if the person is not used to carrying something around at all times. But since it is essential for breathing, it will become a part of your body somehow.

There are two distinct types of portable tanks. And the patient does not have the discretion to choose which one he or she will choose because the device is to be determined by the seriousness of their condition. A continuous flow device is one that supplies air non stop. The pulse flow equipment only supplies the necessary oxygen when the person inhales and stops during the exhalation process.

A pulse flow tank has a conserver inside it so that the oxygen is regulated. This way it is easier to conserve air and the supply can last 5 times more than those without conservers. But those who have more serious conditions need to be in the continuous flow when they are sleeping since there is a chance that the oxygen inhaled would not be enough due to shallow breaths when sleeping.

It is true that people who have a tank attached to them cannot do what others can. There are certain limitations to the activities that they are allowed to perform. But if you are wondering on whether or not they are allowed to travel, the answer would depend on their condition. There are cases that are too risky to travel. But there are others who are allowed. To be sure, you need to ask the attending doctor.

Having a portable tank with you can be a huge advantage when you want to travel. You should ask advice from the doctor first before you decide to go on a vacation because it might no be safe for you. If you are allowed to travel, you must not forget to bring important documents with you, that is documents other than your travel papers.

One of the most important paper that you have to carry with you is a documentation for your portable tank. You can ask for a letter from your tank provider. It can also be the sales invoice when you purchased it.

Make a huge space for your documents as you will be bringing many. Do not forget to bring your personal Ids and contact numbers of people you can call during emergencies or when you need advice, like your doctor and your device provider. And a treatment plan in case there is a flare up during the travel.

Other things that would surely consume space other than your papers and your clothes are your medications. Be sure to have extra for each one. You never know if you will be delayed or not. Prior to traveling, ask for a written statement from your doctor so that you will be allowed to use your oxygen tank inside the plane.
