Organic Farming: Will India Benefit From It?

By Rob Sutter

The efforts that are seen within organic farming are, in my eyes, some of the best that can be considered. There are various crops that are going to be grown and the truth of the matter is that fresh food is going to be seen at a high level these days. You can look to the growing demand for this, especially the most recent developments that have been made in India. I did not realize this to be true until I was able to read a recent report on the matter.

A recent article went into detail about the Economic Times and how it seems as though organic farming has seen a great increase in India. Keep in mind that society, in general, is becoming far more focused on the presence of healthy food, so it's not too surprising that fruits and vegetables would be able to come in effect. In addition, take into account how health-conscious India, in particular, has become. This is where organics come into play and they are ones which networks like Colle Farmers Market are able to endorse.

I was able to look into the pricing percentages as well and some of them surprised me. For example, keep in mind that the article stated how farmers have been able to gain 118% higher price for leafy vegetables, which is quite tremendous. This is especially true when you see how this compares to grains, which only amounts to 53%. Without question, there is a far greater level of attention that is brought to produce and how such products are able to be grown.

There is something to be said about the relationship between the grower and the consumer. Keep in mind that farmers, most likely, are going to have to perform work on a more local scale, so they are not going to be able to attain as much business. That being said, consumers desire the best produce and the ability to bring business to these markets is one that should be exercised. Few things are as impacting as bringing the best business to the smaller establishments you can think of.

Organic farming has been seen in a great way within India and it's not hard to see why. It's an economic choice to make, of course, but it is something that will be able to stand on its own as far as health is concern. Those living in India have demanded greater food be made available and they have more than gotten their wish. With more farming efforts being seen in the future, most likely, I believe that many other areas are going to be able to benefit, too.
